Why Choose RWB Markov Analysis
Markov analysis handles failure-repair dynamics that defeat simpler models — coverage factors, repair priority, degraded operation modes and state-dependent failure rates. RWB makes Markov modelling accessible through a graphical state-transition interface without requiring matrix algebra expertise.
Multiple Degraded States
Model systems that continue to operate in a reduced capacity state after partial failure — a partially degraded mode between full operation and complete failure. Markov chains capture the probabilities of each operating state and the transition rates between them, enabling accurate availability calculation for degraded-mode systems.
Imperfect Fault Coverage
In systems with automatic reconfiguration or failover, imperfect coverage — the probability that a fault is correctly detected and the system successfully reconfigures — significantly affects system availability. Markov models represent coverage explicitly, correcting the optimistic availability estimates that result from assuming perfect switching.
Shared Repair Resource Contention
When multiple components share a single repair crew or spare part pool, repair of one failure delays repair of subsequent failures. Markov models with shared repair resources correctly capture this queueing effect — important for systems with limited maintenance access windows or specialist repair resources.
Steady-State and Transient Solutions
Steady-state Markov solutions provide long-run availability — the proportion of time the system spends in each state. Transient solutions show how state probabilities evolve over time from an initial condition — critical for mission reliability analysis where the system starts fully operational and availability must be maintained for a defined mission duration.
Safety Integrity Level Verification
IEC 61508 permits Markov analysis as the method of choice for SIL verification of Safety Instrumented Systems with complex architectures — particularly those with partial stroke testing, proof test coverage factors and degraded operating modes. TMG delivers Markov models in IEC 61508 compliant formats for SIS certification.
Expert Analysis and Interpretation
Markov analysis requires careful state space definition to avoid the combinatorial explosion that makes large models intractable. TMG brings expertise in model decomposition, lumping and approximation techniques that keep Markov models tractable while preserving analytical accuracy.
How The Mantua Group Works With You
Every organisation is at a different point in its reliability journey. We match our engagement to where you are — from full hands-on delivery through to training your team to self-sufficiency.
We Do — You Learn
TMG leads the full implementation with your team participating throughout to build genuine capability alongside delivery. Ideal for first-time deployments or when internal resources are stretched.
We Do Together
Our most common model. TMG engineers work alongside your maintenance, operations and engineering teams in structured workshops — combining their asset knowledge with our analytical methodology to produce models your team trusts and owns.
We Train — You Do
For teams building internal capability, TMG delivers structured training covering software operation, methodology, and integration. Available as public courses or dedicated onsite delivery across Australia and the United States.
Independent Review & Audit
TMG provides independent technical review of existing models and regulatory submissions — assessing methodology rigour, data quality and standards compliance. Particularly valuable ahead of AER determinations, investment board presentations or safety audits.
Model Complex Failure-Repair Dynamics
Whether you need Markov analysis for an IEC 61508 SIL verification, a complex repairable system, or a nuclear safety case — The Mantua Group is ready to help.
