Network Availability Prediction (NAP)

Network Availability Prediction
The Mantua Group provides Network Availability Prediction (NAP) analysis using Isograph NAP — modelling the availability of communication, utility and distribution networks to identify vulnerable links, quantify end-to-end path availability and optimise network architecture and maintenance strategies.
- Node and link network topology modelling
- End-to-end path availability
- Source-to-target availability calculation
- Network vulnerability identification
- Single point of failure analysis
- N-1 and N-2 contingency analysis
- Redundant path and ring topology
- Maintenance strategy optimisation

Why Choose Isograph NAP
Network systems — power distribution, telecommunications, water, gas, rail — have availability characteristics that cannot be captured by simple series-parallel models. NAP models the full network topology explicitly, accounting for path redundancy, switching and restoration to calculate realistic end-to-end availability.
Network Topology Modelling
Build complete network models with nodes (substations, switching centres, repeaters, pumping stations) and links (cables, pipes, circuits, optical fibres) — each with defined failure rates, repair times and switching characteristics. NAP models ring, mesh, star and hybrid topologies that reflect real network architectures.
End-to-End Path Availability
Calculate the availability of every source-to-target path in the network — the probability that at least one working path exists between each source node and each target node at any point in time. Identify which source-target pairs are most vulnerable to network element failure and where availability falls below targets.
Single Point of Failure and Vulnerability Analysis
Identify network elements — nodes or links — whose failure disconnects one or more source-target pairs with no alternative path. Single points of failure represent the highest-priority targets for redundancy investment, protection relaying improvement or maintenance frequency increase.
N-1 and N-2 Contingency Analysis
Perform N-1 contingency analysis — evaluating network performance following the loss of any single element — and N-2 analysis for double contingency scenarios. Essential for electricity network security of supply compliance demonstrations and telecommunications service level agreement verification.
Component Importance and Investment Prioritisation
Importance measures identify which network components contribute most to overall network unavailability. Direct capital investment in new links, redundant paths or protection upgrades to the elements where spending will deliver the greatest improvement in network availability — justified by quantified NAP output.
Regulatory and Planning Applications
TMG applies NAP analysis in electricity distribution network reliability studies, telecommunications carrier licence compliance, water network security of supply assessments and gas pipeline contingency planning. Outputs support both internal planning decisions and regulatory submissions requiring network performance evidence.
How The Mantua Group Works With You
Every organisation is at a different point in its reliability journey. We match our engagement to where you are — from full hands-on delivery through to training your team to self-sufficiency.
We Do — You Learn
TMG leads the full implementation with your team participating throughout to build genuine capability alongside delivery. Ideal for first-time deployments or when internal resources are stretched.
We Do Together
Our most common model. TMG engineers work alongside your maintenance, operations and engineering teams in structured workshops — combining their asset knowledge with our analytical methodology to produce models your team trusts and owns.
We Train — You Do
For teams building internal capability, TMG delivers structured training covering software operation, methodology, and integration. Available as public courses or dedicated onsite delivery across Australia and the United States.
Independent Review & Audit
TMG provides independent technical review of existing models and regulatory submissions — assessing methodology rigour, data quality and standards compliance. Particularly valuable ahead of AER determinations, investment board presentations or safety audits.
Model Your Network Availability
Whether you need network availability analysis for a regulatory submission, a capital investment case or a contingency planning study — The Mantua Group is ready to help.
