Philip Sage, CMRP
Phil launched The Mantua Group in March of 2000 and serves as the CEO and Principal Consultant where he leverages 30+ years of professional experience in Asset Management, Reliability and Manufacturing Operations to help clients achieve organizational goals in their production and business environments. Over the years he has also developed several Reliability Maintenance courses and facilitates training to personnel across disciplines from the C-Suite and VP-level to Planners and Schedulers and TPM/TQM Coordinators to ensure reliability maintenance best practices are a shared value throughout the organization.
Phil has served as a Principal Reliability Engineer, SME, and Global Advisor for ARMS Reliability Engineers where he was the Global Reliability Innovations Subject Matter Expert (SME) for Asset Strategy Management (ASM), Predictive Maintenance (PdM), and pioneered unique reliability solutions around the world. While with ARMS, he served as Principal Training Developer of ARMS courses including, but not limited to RCM, Availability and Capacity Simulation, RCA/Apollo RCA, Fault Tree Analysis, Event Tree Analysis, RBD Analysis, FMECA, Lifecycle Cost Calculations, MAXIMO, Asset Management Road Map, Engineering Managers Reliability Course and Engineering Systems Audit among others.
In his previous leadership roles, he served as Principal Reliability Engineer for Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company throughout Asia Pacific (APAC) where he led the development and implementation of SAP for a $850MM greenfield plant. Prior to Goodyear, Phil was the Executive Director of Asset Management and Reliability Technologies for Special Metals Corporation in a LEAN production environment where he utilized Theory of Constraints (TOC) for production workflow on a $360MM revenue stream and took failing factories and turned them into world-class operations utilizing Reliability Manufacturing Principles and the appropriate mix of Preventive Maintenance (PM) and Predictive Maintenance (PdM) technologies. He previously held the title of Director Innovation and Business Process Improvement for Call Henry Corporation and developed their $150M revenue stream to the US government. Phil brings extensive management experience through his prior roles as Plant Manager, Engineering Manager, Capital Project Manager, Maintenance Manager, and Director-Level Business Manager.
He has developed and facilitated training and reliability consulting services for various industries including Automotive, Aerospace, CPG, Chemical, Defense, Food & Beverage, Government, Heavy Industry, Manufacturing, Minerals & Mining, Nuclear, Oil & Gas, Petrochemical, Power Generation, Rubber & Plastics, Steel & Super Alloy, Transportation, Utilities, and Water/Wastewater across the Americas, Europe – Middle East – Africa (EMEA), and Asia Pacific (APAC).
Phil is a recognized and sought-after thought leader and has published numerous articles in a variety of internationally recognized maintenance publications about Failure Mechanisms, Uniqueness of Reliability Engineering, Reliability Excellence, Vulnerability Assessment and Analysis Process, Business Continuity Planning, and MAXIMO for Business Performance Management to name a few. He has also presented papers and facilitated workshops on Reliability Excellence, Failure Reporting and Corrective Action Systems, EAM Integrations, Condition Monitoring, and Reliability Excellence with Vibration Monitoring at several international Maintenance and Reliability conferences.
Phil is proficient in the configuration, use, and training of several software platforms including Maximo EAM, Capella CMMS, DataStream MP2 CMMS, IWIMS, Reality Charting, SAP: PM, DMS, MM, Mini HR, PP, QM, FI, and PC, Isograph Availability Workbench, Reliability Workbench, Network Availability Prediction, Mathcad Prime, and others.
Phil is a faculty member and RAMS Course Chief Developer and Lecturer at Central Queensland University in Melbourne, Australia where he instructs master’s-level courses supporting a degree in Asset Management and Reliability. He is a Certified Maintenance and Reliability Professional (CMRP) through the Society of Maintenance and Reliability Professionals (SMRP) and holds Bachelor’s degrees in Physics and Electrical Engineering as well as a Master’s degree in Physics. He is currently a PhD candidate in Physics.
